Cash Drawer Configuration

Learn how to configure your cash drawer in Bravo, including assigning drawers to workstations and selecting printer ports for automatic opening.

Last Updated:  3/5/2025

Cash drawers are vital for daily business operations. They can be key-operated or opened by events in a software POS system. Bravo can open a cash drawer at the end of a transaction or with a button click. This article covers the setup, installation, and troubleshooting of recommended cash drawers for Bravo users.

Instructions

HID Cash Drawers

HID cash drawers have the ability to be opened by a POS system. To set this up in Bravo, follow the steps outlined below. Once the HID cash drawer is set up in Bravo, test it to make sure that it works properly.

Set Up an HID Cash Drawer:

  • From the Dashboard, select System Configuration from the side menu.
  • Find your workstation configuration under the workstation level on the left side.
  • At the bottom of the configuration page, configure the protocol under Cash Drawer Configuration.
  • Click the Edit button and then change the Protocol drop-down from MANUAL to HID.

  • If your HID cash drawer is plugged in, click the magnifying glass icon to search your USB stack for the HID number OR look on the bottom of your device or cash drawer for the HID number and enter it in the entry field.
  • Click test 1 to test if the cash drawer opens.
  • If the cash drawer opens, then you have successfully configured your cash drawer.
Note: If the Cash Drawer does not open, confirm that the correct HID number has been entered.

The key point for using an HID cash drawer is to configure your store for a "General Till" instead of a "Global Till." A general till allows only one user at a time. For a three-workstation store, the ideal setup is one till and receipt printer per workstation.

MultiPRO Interface Cash Drawers

For stores that use global tills, where everyone shares one till, there is another solution for cash drawers. The solution requires cash drawers that use the MultiPRO CD-101A interface.

This interface setup requires the use of a CD-101A cable to connect from the bottom of the cash drawer to the Star TSP 100 LAN Receipt printer.

When the receipt printer prints, the cash drawer is triggered to open. When ordering your cash drawer, make sure your cash drawer has the MultiPRO interface capability.

The CD-101A cable is an additional add on that you will need to purchase separately from the cash drawers. These cables cost around $8.00 from the CashDrawer.com.

Configure Cash Drawers using the CD-101A Interface

  • Connect the CD-101A cable to the bottom of the cash drawer. It plug into what looks like a CAT5 port, although this is not for networking capabilities.
  • Plug the other end into the back of your Star TSP100 receipt printer. It will plug into a port that looks like a phone line jack. Make sure the lock is in the 12-6 position.
  • Next, go into the printer settings on every workstation that has the Star TSP100 LAN printer installed.
  • NOTE - It is very important that it is the LAN version of the printer, so that it can connect to the network and be installed as a network printer on every workstation. If it is not the LAN version of this printer, it will not work.
  • Once inside of Windows, navigate to the Control Panel and then Devices and Printers.
  • Right click on the receipt printer. Click on Printer Properties and then select the Device Settings tab.
  • Under the Device Settings tab, change the Peripheral Unit Type setting from “Buzzer” to “Cash Drawer”.
  • Then change the Peripheral Unit 1 setting to “Document Top”. Make sure your “Cash Drawer 1 – Pulse Width” is set to “200 milliseconds”.
  • Click Apply, followed by OK and close the Printer Properties window.
This configuration will also work using a Bixolon SRP-350iii USB receipt printer. Make sure both devices are turned on and that the cash drawer is plugged into the Bixolon, then download the driver on Bixolon's website here: https://www.bixolon.com/download_view.php?idx=93
  • Other printer models have a different setting that needs to be changed to pop the Cash Drawer Successfully. Such as the TSP 600 (TSP643) uses "Cash Drawer 1" underneath the Pulse Width setting

Potential Problems

If the cash drawer keeps clicking, it usually means the receipt didn't print, causing the printer to repeatedly try printing and sending signals to the drawer. This results in the drawer continuously popping open.

First, disable the Cash Drawer popping in Device Settings, then fix the receipt printer. Once the printer is working properly, you can adjust the settings to allow the drawer to pop.
