Fraud Alerting System

Discover how Bravo’s Fraud Alerting System works to detect and flag high-risk or suspicious transactions to protect your business.

Bravo has implemented a Fraud Alerting System bringing attention to potential fraudulent orders. Not every alerted order is fraudulent. Each order that is alerted should be reviewed and considered before canceling the order as fraudulent. We are also taking time on the back end of Bravo to watch for patterns and cancel any order we know to be fraudulent.

Reasons that Fraud Alerting System will show:

Potential Fraud Alert Triangle:

Yellow triangle is a common warning sign. We are using this to alert you to potential fraud on specific web orders, and we chose to not be subtle about it. From the eCommerce Pending Web Fulfillments screen, you can see the yellow triangle next to the Order Number. There is a new column on the far right dedicated to this warning triangle. All orders with a single potential fraud item receive the warning triangle. Web Orders Details button also gets a triangle.

Fraud Warning Column:

The Fraud Warning Column is dedicated to giving you a quick view into what orders have potential fraud to be further investigated. Only orders that have potential fraudulent associations will show a warning triangle in this column. All other orders will be blank.

Fraud Warning Window:

Clicking on the warning triangle next to the order number or the triangle in the alert column will bring up the warning window with a list of potential fraud item(s) associated to the specific order.

Web Order Details:

The list of Fraud Suspicions is also available from the Web Order Details window. Very common fraud trick is to ship the item to a different address than the correct billing address of the card used. Though there are valid reasons to ship an item to their office when the billing address is home. In this example there are other suspicions such as many recent orders.

Web Fulfillment Warning:

If you still wish to proceed with the order, Loading the Web Fulfillment will bring up the warning window one more time.

Fraud Cancel Reason:

If you have finally concluded this order is fraudulent, we added a new “Cancel Reason” of “Fraudulent Order”. Selecting this will not send any emails or information to the web customer that placed the order.

Best Practices and Tips for Online Selling (and how to reduce fraudulent purchases):

  1. Scrutinize top fraud items - Apple products, high-end electronics, price tag between $500-$1,000
  2. Familiarize yourself with this article -https://midigator.com/.../30-telltale-signs-of-fraud-how.../
  3. Pay attention to warnings within Bravo. We added a new warning this week when shipping address doesn't match billing address. Other warnings include: new customers with 3+ transactions, new customer with orders in excess of $1k, billing city/state doesn't match shipping, multiple user accounts, and more than 3 credit card declines.
  4. Avoid keyed-in transactions - many of you have opted to allow for this to take phone payments. You can disable this on customer-facing devices. Call Fortis. 772 360 4646
  5. Have a clear return and refund policy.
  6. Provide multiple ways for a customer to reach you.
  7. Make sure your billing descriptor is recognizable - ie: if your entity name is much different from the name of your store

We also just pushed a new version of MobilePawn to tighten security on CVV numbers meaning CAPTCHA is now required on mistyped numbers.

Happy Selling and Happy Holidays!
