How to Set Up a Regulatory Remote Transaction Fee
Last Updated: June 18, 2025
The Remote Transaction Fee is a configurable fee that can be applied to renewals made in MobilePawn. This feature helps customers stay compliant with regulatory updates like California SB 1198, which allows a remote transaction fee of up to 3% on renewals completed electronically.
⚠️ Note: This fee only applies to renewals performed through MobilePawn. It does not apply to in-store transactions.
How to Configure the Remote Transaction Fee
To configure this fee:
Go to System Configuration > Regulatory tab, edit a regulation with an Effective Date in the future, then navigate to the Fees sub-tab. Scroll to find the Remote Transaction Fee.
Available Configuration Options
- Default Value
Enter either a flat dollar amount or a percentage of the payment amount. - ‘%’ Checkbox
Check this box to apply the fee as a percentage of the renewal amount, rather than a fixed value. - Frequency Drop-down
Controls when the fee applies:- FIRST PERIOD ONLY – Fee is applied one time when the ticket is renewed or extended in MobilePawn.
- NOT APPLICABLE – Fee is not applied (default setting).
- Event Drop-down
This drop-down determines which transaction types will trigger the Remote Transaction Fee. Options include:- RENEWAL ONLY – Applies the fee only when a loan is renewed through MobilePawn.
- EXTENSION ONLY – Applies the fee only when a loan is extended through MobilePawn.
- RENEW OR EXTEND – Applies the fee whether the customer renews or extends their loan through MobilePawn.
- NOT APPLICABLE – Fee is never applied (this is the default for new and existing regulatory sets).
The text displayed next to Frequency/Event changes depending on the selected combination. For example, selecting FIRST PERIOD ONLY / RENEWAL ONLY shows:
“Fee will be applied once when the ticket is renewed via MobilePawn.”
Behavior and Impact
- Accounting: This fee is tracked like other loan ticket fees and posts to the Loan Ticket Fees GL.
- Scope: It only affects renewals performed through MobilePawn.
- Preview Simulation: A new checkbox labeled MobilePawn Transaction has been added to the Preview Regulations > Exceptions section. Check this to simulate a MobilePawn transaction.
Need to Know
- If the fee is percentage-based, it’s calculated based on the payment amount during renewal—not the original loan value.
- This fee is not applied during in-store renewals or extensions.
- The fee name and configuration can be edited even after the regulatory set's Effective Date, though only in limited-edit mode.
