Identification cards with PDF417 barcodes only (for 800NR scanner)
The ScanShell 800NR scanner does not have OCR (optical character recognition) capabilities and must scan a PDF417 barcode to get the data from the identification card.
Be sure that the identification cards being scanned have a PDF417 barcode. This encrypts all of the data that is on the front of the card.
This is a PDF417 barcode:

Scanning Identification Cards
Bravo Changes
Within Bravo, there are several places where you can scan an identification card to find, create or update a customer’s record. From the dashboard and transaction screen, the plugin adds a [Scan] button. Once a card is scanned, it will search your store’s customers for a match and show it in a list. If no customer is found the [Add New Customer] button will populate a new customer record with the information from the identification card.

While viewing a customer’s record, the information can be updated all at once by clicking [Edit Customer] then clicking the [Scan] button.
Scanner Plugin User Interface
The top of the interface is used to indicate the type of scanner discovered and any success or error messages that occur.
The “Scanned Info” and “Scanned Image” boxes indicate the information that will be returned to Bravo and stored in the customer’s record.
The [Scan Barcode] and [Scan] or [Scan/OCR] buttons perform the scanning functions.
The Rotate button , rotates the image 90° at a time by clicking the rotate button repeatedly.
The [Raw Data] button is for diagnostic purposes and is discussed below in the Troubleshooting section.
Scanning the Barcode
If barcodes are being scanned, it is recommended that they be scanned first, before the front of the card. Insert the identification card into the scanner with the barcode side down and click the [Scan Barcode] button. After the card is scanned, the customer’s name and address should appear as well as an image of the identification card.
Scanning the Front Side of the Card (OCR)
In the case of an OCR (optical character recognition) scanner, it is not necessary to scan the card twice. Scanning the face of the card should gather all of the data. Place the card face down in the scanner and click the [Scan/OCR] button. After the card is scanned, the customer’s name and address should appear as well as an image of the identification card.
Alternate Country Settings
When installing the Scanshell plugin, if you need to ensure that your country is able to use the ID scanner, after you finish the initial download, on the installer make sure you pop open the "Driver License, ID & Passports" section and select a maximum of 5 countries (General Documents & Passports can be left checked). If you do not see your country on the list of IDs able to be scanned, please call support at (702) 701-9115 (Option 3)
Scanning the Front Side of the Card
In the case where a scan of the front side of the card is required, the user can scan it without gathering additional data. Place the identification card in the scanner and click the [Scan] button. An image of the card will be added – any collected data will not be changed.
Completing Scanning
After scanning, the [Done] button will send the collected data to Bravo and close the scanner interface. The [Cancel] button will return to Bravo without sending any data.
