List an Auction on eBay

Listing an eBay auction is easy. It is similar to listing a Buya auction. An eBay auction should be priced and must be in Inventory status before it is listed on eBay.

Before listing on eBay, it is recommended you verify the item details such as the web title, condition, delivery and pricing options using Item Detail dialog.
Special Note:   If two items have the same title, eBay will block items from being listed. To help prevent these duplicate item listing issues on eBay, the item’s inventory number is added to the end of the web title. It is recommended to leave 10 characters at the end of the web title (max of 70) if you are listing an item on eBay.

To list an item on eBay, the item must be selected from the Inventory Screen. Right click the Place on eBay Auction button after selecting the item, or select it from the menu on the right.

An item cannot be on auction on eBay and Buya at the same time.

You will now see the Place on eBay Auction dialog window.

From this window, you will configure your auction.

Select an Auction Style.

  • If you don't want to sell your item below a certain price, you will want to select Reserve Auction, or Reserve Auction with Buy-It-Now.
    • Using the Reserve options, the item will not sell for less than the reserve price.
  • If you want to allow for the item to be purchased directly before it has any bids or the reserve is met, select the auction style to have the Buy-It-Now option.
    • The Buy-It-Now price is set to the item's price.
    • Once the item has bids and any reserve has been exceeded, the Buy It Now option will be removed from the auction listing on the web.

Location will set the location of the item in the store.

This can be set to move the item to a separate area away from the sales floor while it is on active auction.

eBay Category

The eBay Category can be changed or adjusted by clicking the ellipses to the right of the category. You will then see a list like this:

Select the category that best matches the item you are listing.

The Pricing Method determines how the start price and reserve price are set

    • Fixed Amount - sets the price to exactly whatever is entered.
    • Cost + Percentage - sets the starting price and/or reserve at the percentage over cost. Example: if the item’s cost is $100 and the starting price percentage is set at 50%, then the starting price would be set to $150.00 (the original cost plus 50% of the cost).
    • Cost + Amount - sets the starting price and/or reserve at the cost plus the fixed amount.
    • Percent Discount - sets the prices at using the item price discounted by the percentage.
NOTE: Setting prices based on percentages is useful if setting more than one item on auction at the same time (using multi-select from the grid). When setting the price based on percentages, the prices are rounded to the nearest dollar. If the cost or discount percentage is such that the price would otherwise be set to zero, the price is set to $0.01

Start Price and Reserve Price

Set the starting price or minimum opening bid price of the auction.

Remember, if you select a Reserve auction option, you can set a Reserve Price, or Minimum selling price.

The Duration (days) is the length of the auction in days.

eBay allows for Auctions of 1, 3, 5, 7, or 10 days. The end date of the auction will show to the right.

Schedule Start

eBay allows auctions to be scheduled to start at a future date.  Use this option to select the date and time to start the auction. Using this feature will allow you to list several items in one sitting while staggering the date and time of the auction start on eBay.

Click Save

The item will now be placed into a status of Prep for Auction.

The auction is first verified by eBay before it is listed. Any warnings or errors that may need to be corrected will be displayed. Errors are listed in RED. Warnings in YELLOW. Errors must be corrected before placing an item on auction.

For warnings, you may continue to Place on Auction, or Cancel as desired.

The item condition on eBay is automatically determined from the item quality in Bravo.  In some cases there is not exact match, as for some categories on eBay (like watches there is only "New", "Pre-Owned").

As soon as placing on auction, an eBay auction label is printed to be placed on the item so you know that the item is on an eBay auction.

Important Note: eBay auctions are queued and it could take up to 10 to 15 minutes before they are listed. The item status will change from “Prep for Auction” to “Auction” after it has been successfully listed on eBay. If there is an error from eBay during listing, you can view the error from the auction details on Web Auction Management. The auction status will be “Error”.

The last step is to check the auction status from the Web Auction Management screen.

Right click on the item and select View on Web Auction Management.

This will take you to the item in the Web Auction Management screen

Once the item has a status of Active, you can right click and select View Auction on eBay.

This will take you to the eBay Auction.

eBay auctions cannot be cancelled once there is a bid, so Bravo takes steps to make sure that the item is not accidentally sold through another channel.

If you look at the same item on Buya, you will see a notice that the item is listed on eBay.

If an associate scans the item for sale in Bravo, you will see the following warning:

When an item is won through auction, it is added to the winner's eBay shopping cart to be purchased.

Once the buyer checks out on eBay, a web order is automatically created in Bravo. The order is fulfilled through Web Fulfillment.
