This article will go over how to Sell from a SKU, put a SKU item on Layaway and Returning SKU items.
Instructions
Selling from a SKU
- To sell a SKU, scan the barcode or enter the SKU number in Smart Search.
- The SKU number will automatically place the item as a Sale with a quantity of 1 at the default price set in System Configuration.

- Re-entering the SKU number increments the quantity by one and sets the amount up by the default value.
- You can also use the arrows next to the quantity to increase or decrease the amount.
- Click the Edit button on the line item to get the SKU Sale Detail Dialog

- In the SKU Sale Detail Dialog, you can also enter the quantity to be sold. The total price can be set, in which case the Price Each is automatically adjusted.
The ability to sell in excess of actual quantity on hand (Oversale) is possible with the proper permissions.
When sales surpass stock, quantity and cost appear as zero instead of negative. To avoid this, adjust the SKU quantity to reflect actual stock. To learn about managing SKUs, refer to this article, Bucket Management.
Not - SKUs cannot be sold online.
Layaways with SKUs
Layaway on an SKU works the same as a regular Layaway.
Instructions
- Pull up the SKU in the Smart Search and from the Transaction window, select Layaway.
- The Layaway will default to a quantity of 1 for the SKU.

- To increase the quantity, click the Add Items button in the New Layaway Detail window.

- Enter the quantity and click OK.
- The Selling Price and the Down Payment will automatically adjust for the correct quantity.
All the items are assumed to be on the same Layaway, bundled together, with the same Layaway number.
- One layaway tag is printed for all with the quantity noted.

To have separate layaways with different terms or payment schedules for the same SKU.
- Enter the SKU again in smart search. This will create a new Layaway for the same SKU number.
If Scan Item Verification is enabled for sales, the system will prompt users to confirm item quantities in the Scan Items screen when finalizing SKU layaway payments.

Returning SKUs
Returns for a SKU depend on the ratio of items returned to items sold. SKU returns require the customer's receipt, as we can't verify them by scanning the SKU alone.
Instructions
- Type in the Transaction number from the receipt into the Smart Search.

- Click on the item, then click Return on the right.
If the transaction was a Sale originally done without a customer you will receive a warning that a customer must be attached in order to return the items in the transaction.

Once the customer is selected, select Return on right panel and the system prompt for:
- Reason
- Quantity to Return
- Note

The return limit matches the number of purchased items. A customer can return 2 out of 5 items in one transaction and return the remaining 3 later, but the total cannot exceed 5 items.
