Suspend and Resume transactions
Learn how to suspend and resume transactions in Bravo, allowing employees to pause a transaction and return to it later without losing progress.
Suspending a transaction allows the store to pause the current transaction and resume it later without losing the information or items already scanned. This can help the store save time, avoid errors, and improve customer service.
You may want to suspend a transaction in one of the following scenarios:
- The customer needs to get more items or change their payment method.
- You need to attend to another customer or task.
- The store system or equipment malfunctions or needs maintenance.
- You need to move to a different workstation to complete the transaction.
- You need another employee to finish the transaction you started.
- You prepare a quote to a customer over the phone, and suspend the transaction to be resumed when the customer arrives at the store.
How to get it:
Access to Suspend Transaction and Resume a Transaction is controlled by the Suspend Transaction security bit. Enabling this bit allows full access to Suspend and Resume transactions. Disabling this bit hides this feature entirely.
The security bit location is under Main Menu -> Transactions -> Suspend Transaction.
Suspended Transactions are not allowed to be processed if they were created on a previous version of Bravo. Each Suspend Transaction will need to be removed manually from the system after the update or taken care of before the update occurs.
If one has to be removed, as long as the item is still available to be put in Suspend Transaction a new one can be made after the update.
To suspend a transaction, simply select the Suspend Transaction button on the right panel of the Transactions screen. This button appears whenever there is at least one line item in the transaction.

Some additional notes about suspending transactions:
- You do not need to select a customer to suspend a transaction. If no customer is selected, the Resume a Transaction dialog will simply list the customer as CASH CASH.
- Inventory items in a suspended transaction will still be available for sale in another transaction - suspending the transaction does not reserve the item for a customer. The sale is granted on a first-come, first-served basis. If you attempt to resume a transaction and an item has been sold since it was suspended, you'll be notified of the changed item status when you attempt to save the transaction.
- Some transaction line items are time-sensitive, such as pawn or layaway payments. This is because the payment amount may change from day to day, depending on the transaction type and state of the item in the transaction. If you suspend a transaction with line items that are time-sensitive, Bravo will advise you to resume and complete the transaction in the same day. If the transaction isn't completed on the same day that it was suspended, the suspended transaction will be deleted. For more information, see Suspending Time-Sensitive Transactions
To resume a suspended transaction, go to the Transactions screen and select the Resume a Transaction button on the right panel, then select the suspended transaction. If you are not sure which transaction to resume, select a line and then select View Receipt to see a preview of the items in the transaction.
Remove a suspended transaction by clicking the red X on the far right. Clicking this X will remove the transaction and the transaction cannot be restored. Removing a suspended transaction has no affect on the listed loans or inventory.
