Now you can take it a step further by breaking your total tax rate into parts like State, County, Local, or Excise. These pieces are totally optional, but super helpful.

If you set them up, Bravo does the math for you and shows a clear breakdown in the Sales Accounting Report. It’s a great way to stay organized, meet local tax rules, and skip the spreadsheets.

Bravo will validate that the total of your Rate Components equals the Tax % for the selected tax group.
If it doesn’t, a red box appears with a mouseover message:
“Sum of Rate Components must equal total Tax % for the selected Tax Group.”

You won’t be able to click Save, change tax groups, or leave the section until the values match.
Click Cancel anytime to discard your changes.

Save and Validate Your Changes

Once your percentages and components are entered and validated, click Save.

  • If you’re unsure about the changes, click Cancel to start over.

Tip: Want to see what rates were previously applied? Click any older date in the Tax Authority Rule Effective Date section to view past values.

Why Use Rate Components

Rate Components give you more control, accuracy, and transparency in how you report sales tax.

Here’s why you might want to use them:

  • Make tax reporting easier
Break your total rate into parts like State, County, Local, or Excise so you can see exactly where your tax dollars are going—no need for manual calculations or spreadsheets.

  • Stay compliant with local rules
Some jurisdictions require that excise taxes or layered rates be tracked and reported separately. Setting up components helps meet those requirements with ease.

  • Improve internal tracking
Want to monitor how much tax you’re collecting for different purposes? Use components to separate internal vs. external taxes, or break out categories like shipping or ammo.

  • Get cleaner reports
When components are configured, Bravo’s Sales Accounting Report automatically displays a detailed breakdown by tax authority, tax type, and amount collected—no setup required.

Whether you're managing complex tax structures or just want clearer reporting, Rate Components help simplify your end-of-month accounting and keep you audit-ready.

Example Report Output

If you configure a 10% tax as:

  • State (4.6%)

  • County (0.4%)

  • Local (5%)

Bravo will display the full tax collected plus a breakdown by each component—calculated and grouped by location and tax group
