Bravo Glossary
Understand Bravo system terms with this glossary of common phrases, acronyms, and features used in point-of-sale and back-office processes.
From time to time in Bravo, you may see or hear a phrase that you are not particularly familiar with. This Glossary is a helpful resource for you to be able to look up some of these terms. You can use the alphabetical links to jump to a particular section of the glossary, or you can search for a specific term on the page by pressing the "ctrl" key + F to bring up Find and then entering the word you are looking for. Please let us know if there is something in this glossary that we are missing.

3 letter Code | This is the short code or store abbreviation. This 3 character code will start all of your company numbers (pawn tickets, item numbers, transaction numbers, etc) and is the easiest way for Bravo Techs to identify you |
3rd Party Transactions | Ability to transfer a firearm through a third party for items shipped out of state or to another location. |
A Goods | Jewelry items |
A Tags | Jewelry tags or labels, typically a barbell style label, though they can also be a rat-tail style label, depending on the store and printer |
A&D Book | Acquisition and Disposition book - this is the log of firearms taken into a shop and sold out of a shop. This record is required for shops to maintain their licensing and standing with the ATF |
Activation Code | Numeric code sent to a customer's cell phone to allow them to activate the MobilePawn application. |
Actual Stone Size | Carat weight of stone as based on the measurement in the system as well as the specific gravity of the stone type chosen |
Ad Hoc | A Latin phrase meaning "for this". In English, it generally signifies a solution designed for a specific problem or task. In Bravo it refers to the customizable reporting process that allows users to select from a variety of criteria and parameters to produce reports for a specific purpose. |
Adjusted Condition Rating | Conditional rating on items in estimator, based on user input |
Aged Discount Scheduler | Feature that allows the price of general merchandise items to be automatically discounted a certain percentage every X number of days. |
Alert | Important notes on customer account that need to be viewed during all interactions with the customer |
Antique (Firearm) | Items that are considered antique firearms are muskets and front powder loaded rifles. These items will be marked as antique and will not appear in the A&D Book if "Include Antiques" is not checked |
API | Application Programming Interface. A set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications. |
APR | Annual Percentage Rate. The annual total interest charge on a pawn or loan |
Assay | To determine the content or quality of a metal or ore. This process is done by a refiner to verify the percentage of fine metals vs base metals in a bucket of scrap jewelry. |
ATF | Abbreviation for the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms - A US Regulatory agency that strictly monitors the sale and distribution of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms |
Autolock | the process of Bravo locking itself after a specified period of being idle |
B Goods | Manufactured goods and general merchandise that does not fall into a jewelry category |
Best Price | Best sales price at the given condition rating |
BI Reports | Business Intelligence reports - Analytical reporting tool outside of Bravo |
Blind Cash Count | The process of counting your till or safe where Bravo prompts with expected values for all tender types except for cash |
Blind Count | The process of counting your till or safe where Bravo does not prompt with expected values for any tender type |
Brand | Known jewelry brands that give added value to a piece |
Branded Website | Your shop.dot URL set up for your company and filled with items from your inventory that are listed for sale on buya.com |
Bucket | Four digit SKU code set up to sell bulk items at a set price. Items can be brought into the SKU in quantity from buys/pawns or from vendors. Items within the SKU do not need to be tagged, the 4 digit code can be used in lieu of an item number. |
Bulk Sale | Selling items in bulk to a vendor at a fixed cost or price, |
Bulk-Quantity Items | Items that are typically pawned or purchased in bulk |
Buy Ticket | The act of purchasing a loan item directly from the customer before the item is forfeited. |
Buya | Online shopping portal for Bravo's clients. Online marketplace that allows you to easily list your inventory through the system and have it for sale on the web. |
C - E
Calipers | tool used to measure the size of diamonds and gem stones. |
Combine | Taking two or more inventory items and combining them into one main item |
Company Level | In System Configuration, the company level is the top most level of configuration settings. This can be found at the top of the column to the left of the screen |
Condition Rating | Quality rating of item condition |
Configuration | The ability and act of changing settings in the store |
Consign | taking an item in to sell on behalf of a customer for a fee |
Consignment | Item taken in to sell on behalf of a customer for a fee. Also the act of taking in the item. |
Consignor | Customer who owns item that is on consignment with the store |
Cost Adjustment | Changing the initial cost on an item, whether through splitting, combining, writing off, repair, or by manually overriding the cost. Functionality of this process can be limited to managers only. |
Cost Code | A word or code used to represent the digits 1-9 with additional letters alternating for Zero. For example if a store uses the cost code ABCDEFGHIXZ, the letters A-I will represent the numbers 1-9, the letters X and Z will represent 0. The cost code will print on a receipt in place of an items cost, this way a store associate will have insight to the actual cost of an item and the customer will not. If the cost code says BEX, the associate will know that the item carries a cost of $250 and can negotiate accordingly |
Courtesy Hold | Special hold given to customer as courtesy. Items on courtesy hold will not be subject to expiration (forfeit) during the hold period. Interest will still accrue. |
CTW | Abbreviation used for total carat weight |
Current Market Value | The value of a given commodity at the current market. In Bravo this is used for metals and stones. |
Customer Required Fields | Fields in Bravo that are required to be filled out for a customer profile. These fields can be different for different types of transactions and can be configured in System Configuration. |
dashboard | Bravo's home screen. From the Dashboard all other points can be accessed |
Diamond Calculator | Tool in Bravo that gives carat weight of diamonds based on their size and specific gravity |
Diamond Size Total | Total size of all diamonds in a piece, also known as the total carat weight |
DNC | Do Not Contact - this box is unchecked by default. If they do not wish to have phone calls, they can opt out. |
DNT | Do Not Text - this box is unchecked by default. If they do not wish to receive text or MobilePawn notifications, they can opt out. |
DWT | The abbreviation for pennyweight. Originally came from comes from the Latin denarius, (an ancient Roman coin). |
Employee Global Till | Till that is accessible by only one employee at a time, but can be accessed from multiple workstations throughout the store. |
Estimator | Tool in Bravo used to evaluate general merchandise items. |
Expired Transactions | Expired customer transactions, including loans and layaways |
Extension | Additional days added to a loan ticket by the customer paying all interest and fees due. Ticket retains original terms. |

Favorites | Web links on Bravo's dashboard. |
FTP | File Transfer Protocol. A standard network protocol used for the transfer of computer files between a client and server on a computer network. |
General Ledger | The main accounting record of a company or organization. |
General Merchandise | Items in inventory or in pawn that are not considered Jewelry. |
General Till | Till that is accessible by only one employee at a time and can only be accessed from the workstation where the till was initially opened. |
Global Access | Ability to access multiple stores within your company |
Global Till | Till that is accessible by multiple employees at one time and from multiple workstations throughout the store. |
GM Labels | Rectangular labels used to mark General Merchandise and Manufactured goods. |
Grace Period | Period of time after the pawn due date during which the loan cannot be forfeited. This is typically the period of time before the notice is sent out. |
Grams | A metric unit of mass equal to one thousandth of a kilogram. There are 31.1 grams in a troy ounce. |
Hallmark | Mark in or on a piece of Jewelry that denotes a specific maker. |
Help Cases | Tickets submitted to the technical support team through the solution center. These cases can be tracked through the solution center directly. |
HID | Human Interface Device. In Bravo, you will hear this term in connection to electronic cash drawers that can be triggered to open via the system |
Hold Period | The period of time an item is on hold. Interest will still accrue during the hold period. |

mporter | Company or Agency who |
Interest Rebate | Interest that is calculated and then subtracted out of what is due. Seen when interest is prorated to a daily charge by the governing regulatory set. |
Interest Rebate Threshold | The threshold amount after which interest and fees are prorated to a daily charge. Amounts under the threshold are subject to full month interest only. |
Jewelry Labels | Barbell style labels that are used for jewelry |
Jewelry Master | Tool in Bravo used to evaluate jewelry, precious metals and gemstones |
L - N
Large Ticket Labels | Labels that print the last 6 digits of a pawn number in large print type so that the label can be more easily read from a distance |
License Key | String of characters that unlocks the workstation to be able to sign into Bravo. Each workstation needs to have its own unique license key |
MAC Address | Media access control address of a device that serves as a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communications. MAC addresses are used as a network address for most network technologies, including Ethernet and Wi-Fi |
Master Jewelry Label | Feature in Bravo that, if turned on, allows one label to be printed for all jewelry items on a loan so that the items can be stored together. Will print on a regular merchandise label |
Max Discount | The maximum allowable discount without a manager approval. |
Max Password Age | The longest period of time in days before a password will need to be changed |
Merchandise Service Fees | A button in the transaction screen of Bravo that allows miscellaneous merchandise to be sold (without a tag), and also allows fees to be assessed to a customer. (i.e. restock fee) |
Meta Data | Data gathered to help assess the value of an item |
MLA | Military Lending Act. Act that prohibits APR rates and charges greater than 36% for active duty service members and covered dependents. |
Mobile App | The process of Bravo locking itself after mobile a specified period of being idle |
Mobile approval | The ability of an associate to request an approval from a manager not currently in the shop via the Bravo Mobile app |
MobilePawn | Mobile application for customers to view and manage their loans, shop Buya.com and make payments |
MSRP | Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. This is the selling price of a new item in the retail marketplace. |
NFA | National Firearms Act - Act that defines a number of categories of regulated firearms and requires their registration. This listed includes Machine guns, Short Barreled rifles, Short barreled shotguns, silencers and Destructive Devices |
Non-Taxable Fee | Fees that are set up in the system to be charged with no sales tax liability. |
O - Q
OFAC | Office of Foreign Assets Control. Department of Treasury office tasked with enforcing economic and trade sanctions. Tracks countries as well as individuals known as Specially Designated Nationals or SDNs |
One-of-a-Kind | Items that are not usual, and do not have a previous description in Bravo. This should be reserved for items that will likely not be seen again |
Open Count | The process of counting your till or safe where Bravo prompts with expected values for all tender types |
Password Memory Check | The number of unique passwords that must be used before a previous password can be reused |
Pending Transactions | Active customer transactions |
Pennyweights | A unit of mass that is equal to 24 grains or 1/20 of a troy ounce. Abbreviated DWT. There are 20 pennyweights per troy ounce |
PI | Physical Inventory, used mostly in conjunction with the Physical Inventory App in Bravo |
PI App | Application that is downloaded to a computer or windows enabled mobile device for the purposes of running audits on store inventory. |
Plus Girot | A Swedish money transaction system, owned by Nordea. One of two proprietary clearing systems used for regular transactions such as bill payments in Sweden. |
Price Guide | Tool given in Bravo to help price out items in inventory, and to make decisions on pawn value of items |
Primary Instore Database Location | This is the terminal and folder location of the in-store copy of the ATF A&D book. An in-store location must be specified for the store to remain compliant with ATF requirements |
Proof of Mailing | Form taken to the post office for signature to prove notice was mailed as required by certain jurisdictions/regulations. |
Purchase Orders | A purchase order (PO) is a commercial document issued by a buyer to a seller, indicating types, quantities, and agreed prices for products or services. It is used to control the purchasing of products and services from external suppliers. |
Qualtiy Assessment | Assessment questions in the estimator that allow users to give accurate value for items |
R - T
Receipt Message | Four lines of customizable messaging for the receipts that print in Bravo |
Reconsign | Consignment started on an item that was previously in Bravo's system |
Recycle List | Interchangeable with Scrap List. This is the list of items that the user wishes to have available to put into scrap buckets. |
Redemption | Paid off loan where the customer is able to retrieve their collateral |
Referral Source | Where the customer heard about your store |
Reg Set | Set of rules and regulations for pawns in a specific shop. Techs at Bravo may refer to these regulations as your Reg Set. |
Regulation | A principle, rule, or law designed to control or govern conduct. A regulation in Bravo will govern pawns and buys, including interest, fees, pawn length, grace period, notices, and how extensions can work. Regulations once set cannot be changed. To make a change, a new regulatory set must be set. |
Reloan | Loan taken out on an item that was previously in Bravo's system. |
Renewal | New loan started on an item currently on loan by the customer paying all interest and fees due. Renewal starts the terms of the loan over on day 1. |
Report Bad Data | Button in Estimator that allows user to report inaccurate data on an item to Bravo's tech team |
Resume Session | Log back into Bravo |
Row Shading | The feature that allows customers to have reports have every other row shaded grey for legibility |
Safe Max | The maximum amount of money that can be in a safe at closing. Any amount over this figure will prompt a transfer out to the bank |
Safe Min | The minimum amount of money that can be in a safe at closing. Any amount under this figure will prompt a transfer in from the bank |
Scan Item Verification | Feature in Bravo that, if turned on, requires associates to scan items before returning to customer to verify that the correct item is being pulled. |
Scrap Bucket | Virtual buckets that are set up for each metal that the user wishes to send out for refining. User will put items into the bucket in the system, then ship the items en masse to the refiner. |
Scrap List | List of items that the user wishes to have available to put into scrap buckets. Interchangeable with Recycle List. |
Scrap Refining Process | Function in Bravo that allows for easy tracking of scrap metals by separating into buckets of metal kind, and tracking each step from filling the bucket until closing the transaction. |
SDN | Specially Designated Nationals. Individuals, groups and companies owned or controlled by or acting on behalf of countries tracked by OFAC as sanctioned as well as individuals, groups and entities such as terrorists and narcotics traffickers designated under programs that are not country - specific. These individuals assets are blocked and US persons are generally prohibited from dealing with them. |
Security Settings | The settings in Bravo that allow store owners and managers to control which employees have access to what functions in Bravo. |
Session | Time currently logged into Bravo |
Shop.Dot | A branded website for your store that is set up with products from your inventory that are listed on Buya. |
Smart Search | Search Engine in Bravo that recognizes the numbers that are put into it. |
SMS | Text messaging service that allows stores to reach their consumers mobile devices directly through Bravo |
Solution Center | Bravo's help document, and how-to guide. |
Split | Taking one item number and creating two or more individual inventory items from it. |
Staging | Bravo's testing and training environment. You may hear techs refer to "Our Staging Environment" |
Stone Calculator | Tool in Bravo that gives carat weight of stones based on their size. Weight will be equivalent to diamond weight. Actual carat weight will be given based on the specific gravity of the stone chosen |
Store Level | This is the level of individual store configuration settings |
Surplus | Amount collected on the sale of a loan above the originally owed principal and interest. (Example: Loan of $100 with $30 interest due is sold for $150. The difference between what is owed [$130] and what the loan is sold for [$150] is the surplus.) (Not typically used in the US.) |
System Configuration | Window in Bravo accessible from a dashboard button that allows users to configure a number of settings in their store, change and access user information, grant new securities and check their estimator values |
System Conversion | 1) Process of converting information from one software to another - such as moving data from a prior pawn software to Bravo. 2) Special tender type that can be turned on for a store to assist with the process of converting data from one system to another. |
Tag Description | Description of the item as seen on the tag or label |
Tag Type | Type of tag or label that will be printed for each item in the store. GM Tags are the default for General Merchandise. These print from the Label printer. Jewelry tags (A Tags) are the default for Jewelry items. These print from the printer designated A Tags onto barbell labels) |
Tasks | Links to daily tasks within the system. |
Tax Exempt | Sales tax is not charged |
Tax Included | Sales tax is included in the calculation of the item price. |
Till | Also known as cash drawer, cash box or register. |
Till Max | The maximum amount of money that can be in a till at closing. Any amount over this figure will prompt a transfer out to the safe. |
Till Min | The minimum amount of money that can be in a till at closing. Any amount under this figure will prompt a transfer in from the safe. |
Transfer | The act of sending from one place to another. In Bravo, the act of sending inventory or loans between stores or to a vendor or auction. |
Troy Ounce | A system of units of mass used for precious metals and gemstones. One troy ounce is equal to 31.1 grams or 20 pennyweights. |
U - Z
Unlocked | workstation that is not locked by the user |
VAT | Value Added Tax. Tax on Interest and Fees. |
Vendor | A person or company who sells merchandise to the shop. |
Workstation | Computer Terminal running Bravo |
